📚 The MDBA Book Club – A Soulful Space for Book Lovers in the Diaspora

On July 6, 2025, the Moldovan Diaspora Business Alliance (MDBA) hosted another heart-warming and inspiring gathering of its Book Club, a project that brings together literature enthusiasts from the Moldovan and Romanian diaspora across the North of the UK.

The event took place in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where book lovers from Manchester and surrounding areas gathered to discuss a true gem of Romanian literature: “The Art of Conversation” by Ileana Vulpescu. The book was suggested by Mrs. Mirela Corlaci, and what followed was a heartfelt, profound, and genuine discussion — exactly the kind of experience we strive to create at every Book Club meeting.

📖 What is the MDBA Book Club?

It’s more than just a club — it’s a soulful community, a safe space where members share thoughts, impressions, emotions, and personal stories inspired by books. It’s a place where literature becomes a bridge between generations, cultures, and hearts.

We alternate between reading fiction — novels, poetry, memoirs — and personal development books, offering a balanced experience between emotion and reflection, art and self-discovery.

Our next book, selected by mutual agreement, is “When the Body Says No” by Dr. Gabor Maté, a powerful exploration of the connection between emotional stress and physical health. It promises to open both minds and hearts — just as “The Art of Conversation” did.

🌍 Why Join the MDBA Book Club?

1. Meaningful connections with wonderful people
Every meeting is a chance to connect with others who share a passion for books. Whether you’re new to the UK or have been living here for years, you’ll find a community that feels like home.

2. Support for mental well-being
Through open, friendly conversations, we combat social isolation, encourage authentic interaction, and give every participant a voice. Time spent together is not only enjoyable — it’s therapeutic.

3. Exchange of ideas and personal growth
From literary insights to real-life topics such as identity, migration, emotional balance — the Book Club becomes an informal school of life.

4. Activities for both parents and children
Thanks to a generous book donation from Mrs. Mirela Steel, the Book Club now includes a collection of Romanian-language books for children. This means parents can engage in adult discussions, while kids enjoy age-appropriate storytelling — a beautiful way to keep the Romanian language and culture alive for the younger generation.

🎁 Donate a Book — Share a World!

If you have books (for children or adults) that you no longer use, we warmly encourage you to donate them to MDBA. We’ll make sure they reach other readers who will love them just as much as you did. Every book donated is an investment in education, culture, and community.
